Today in History: In 1965, a young lawyer and consumer advocate named Ralph Nader (for those of you too young to remember, that IS the same guy who ran for president) published a book called “Unsafe at any Speed,” an indictment of the auto industry. At the time, the United States had no unifying laws governing roads. So, on June 24, 1966, the U.S. Senate passed the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, which set up federal laws for our roadways.
