5 Things to Know Today: June 8

A little bit of information to start your day.

1. Weather: When you’re hot, you’re HOT! According to the National Weather Service, today’s going to be clear and hot, with temperatures heading into the 90s. Ok, not just the 90s, but 96. Let’s look at that number one more time. 9-6. Where did spring go??

2. In Case You Missed It: Speaking of the temperature, a that was issued for the Lehigh Valley made our front page yesterday. Journalist (and regional editor) Susan Koomar actually used the words “miserably hot” to describe today and tomorrow. Woo-hoo.

3. Coming Up: There's a “sweet” event this weekend at Penn State-Lehigh Valley. The article will have people “buzzing” with excitement…(The article is about beekeepers, if you hadn’t caught on yet.)

4. Did You Know? That today is National Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day? Me either! Today’s so hot, the only filling for a doughnut should be ice cream. You hear that, ??

5. Today in History: On this day in 1966, the rival National Football League (NFL) and American Football League (AFL) announced that they would merge. The first "Super Bowl" between the two leagues took place at the end of the 1966 season, though it took until the 1970 season for the leagues to unite their operations and integrate their regular season schedules.
