4. Did You Know? That the worst flood on record was the 1889 Johnstown Flood? On May 31, 1889, the swollen Conemaugh River, and then the bursting of the South Fork Dam, flooded Johnstown. The river had crested at 31 feet over normal flood levels. 

5. Today in History: On Sept. 8, 1974 President Gerald Ford pardoned his predecessor, Richard M. Nixon, for his part in the Watergate scandal.
