9 Tips to Help Kids Stay Safe During Summer Swim Season
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that pool or spa owners with children take these precautions.

Before you do a cannonball into the deep end of summer fun, check out these pool safety tips from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission:
- Never leave a child unattended at a pool or spa. Always watch your child when she or he is in or near the water.
- Keep children away from pool drains, pipes and other openings to prevent entrapment.
- Keep a phone handy when at the pool. Check the pool/spa first if a child is missing.
- Make sure you and your child know how to swim.
- Learn CPR.
- If a child is missing, look for him or her in the pool or spa first.
- Install and use a lockable safety cover on your spa.
- Install gate alarms to let you know when kids go near the water.
- Install a 4-foot tall (or higher) fence around your pool and use self-latching and self-closing gates. If your neighbors have pools, ask them to do the same.
