How They Did It: Jailhouse Informant Talks UST Burglary Ring

A jailhouse informant steps forward with new information on group accused of burglarizing Center Valley homes.

Additional charges have been filed against a member of the gang accused of burglarizing several homes in 2011, thanks to a jailhouse informant.

Amber Love Breeland, 26, was living with Jose Louis Torres in a mobile home off Route 309 in Center Valley when police arrested Breeland, Torres and Erick Del Pilar Medina in conjunction with a string of burglaries throughout the valley.

When Torres and Breeland were initially arrested, they were in possession of a 9mm handgun. The criminal complaint states that during questioning, Breeland told police they had gone to a storage facility to retrieve the handgun to "deliver to what she describes as 'a murderer’s girlfriend.'"

Breeland also bragged to police that Torres was a burglar and that "he is good at it."

Breeland's cellmate in Lehigh County Prison contacted police, saying she had "confessions" from Breeland about the burglaries.

According to the criminal complaint, the informant told police:

  • Breeland and Torres would put Play-Doh in the treads of their shoes to disguise their tracks
  • They burglarized homes between 11pm and 4am
  • Torres chose homes with no lights on, assuming "that no one was home"
  • Torres would pry glass out of window frames instead of breaking the glass to throw off any alarm systems in place.

In Center Valley, Torres, Breeland and Del Pilar are accused of two home invasions.

May 9 at a Center Valley home; jewelry, a laptop, a box of frozen bacon and a safe were taken for a total of $8,116.

May 29 at a Center Valley home; two flat-screen TVs, jewelry and gift cards were stolen for a total of $7,600.

Based on the informant's information, police were able to bring additional charges against Breeland, including:

  • 5 counts 3rd Degree Felony Theft
