Church's Expansion Plan Approved by Supervisors

Upper Saucon Township supervisors unanimously approved an expansion plan presented by representatives for Calvary Bible Fellowship Church.

An expansion plan presented by representatives for Calvary Bible Fellowship Church received unanimous approval from Upper Saucon Township supervisors May 13.

Representing the church at a public hearing before the supervisors was engineer Jim Mazeika of Barry Isett and Associates.

Mazeika noted that the expansion will include construction of a narthex and stairway additions, as well as "an upper balcony on the eastern side of the building."

Outside the main building, landscaping, lighting, storm water management measures and 29 parking spaces will be added.

Mazeika said the expansion is not expected to impact surrounding properties or traffic in the area.

"Typically peak traffic flow [at the church] is on Sunday, when adjoining traffic flows are not at their peak," he said.

A church member who also addressed the supervisors noted that the expansion is needed because Calvary Bible Fellowship has "more attendance and not enough space inside," which he called "a good problem to have."

The congregation has called the 4-acre N. Main Street site home since the late 1860s, he said.

The vote to approve the development plan—which was recommended for approval by the township planning commission—was 5-0.

There was no public comment on the proposal.
