Alleged Rolex Thief Found in Doylestown Jail

Coopersburg resident Kenneth Henry Stamatson, 51, is charged with stealing eight Rolex watches worth more than $100,000 from Murphy Jewelers.

Coopersburg resident Kenneth Henry Stamatson has been considered a fugitive from justice since December for allegedly writing bad checks to purchase eight Rolex watches worth more than $100,000.

Police found Stamatson in February not on the run but in a Doylestown jail cell. The charge? Writing bad checks and theft by deception in Bucks County for a separate incident.

According to the Lehigh County criminal complaint, Upper Saucon police were alerted by a manager at Murphy Jewelers in the Promenade Shops that a customer had written a series of bad checks. The customer, identified on the checks at Stamatson, came to the store on Oct. 28 and purchased the watches for $100,753. The check was returned to Murphy Jewelers for insufficient funds.

Stamatson was contacted by the store, and returned to write another check, along with the returned check charge, bringing the total to $100,788. Again, the check was returned to the store.

Murphy Jewelers contacted Stamatson two more times. Each time, Stamatson wrote a new check each time the check was returned for insufficient funds with the final check totaling $101,000 with additional check charges.

The criminal complaint goes on to say that police issued a search warrant for Stamatson's bank account at TD Bank. The bank confirmed that the funds for the Rolexes never existed in Stamatson's account.

Stamatson is charged with four counts of writing bad checks (a third-degree felony) and one count of theft by deception (a third-degree felony) in Lehigh County. In Bucks County he is currently charged with one count of writing bad checks (a third-degree felony) and one count of theft by deception (a third- degree felony).

Stamatson has a history of similar arrests back to 2008 in Lehigh, Delaware and Bucks counties.
