Funeral for Slain Officer Today stirs Memories of Upper Saucon Officer

Memorial services for Freemansburg Police Officer Robert Lasso, who was on Aug. 11, will be held this morning.

First, a private service for family and friends will be held at the , 500 Linden St., Bethlehem, at 8am. Then a procession of police officers will move from the funeral home to , where a public memorial service will be held at 10am in the college’s Spartan Center.

Representatives from Upper Saucon, Coopersburg and Lower Milford are participating in the procession.

This is the first time an officer has been killed since 2006, when Upper Saucon police officer David Petzold was from Route 309 in Upper Saucon. Recently, Lehigh County opened a at DeSales and named it in honor of Officer Petzold.

The lab is staffed by 10 police officers from Upper Saucon, South Whitehall, Lower Milford, Salisbury, Emmaus, Slatington, Allentown, Bethlehem, Coopersburg and Berks-Lehigh Regional police departments. The officers will be sworn in as detectives.
