I-78 Traffic Stop Turns Up Cocaine, Police Say

State police say two New Jersey men had drugs in their car during Upper Saucon search.

Two New Jersey men are facing drug charges following a traffic stop early Tuesday on Interstate 78 in Upper Saucon.

State police say Robert Clair and Maurice Garlington, both 29 and from Teaneck, had cocaine and marijuana hidden in their trunk.

According to court records, the men were stopped around 2:10 a.m. for driving in the passing lane. Police noticed the smell of marijuana in the car.

After running their names, they found that Clair's license had been suspended, and that both men had a history of drug and weapon charges.

Clair allegedly told police Garlington had put something in the trunk, but would not give them permission to search.

Police say Garlington eventually admitted to having drugs stored in the trunk. The car was towed, police got a search warrant, and then found 51 grams of cocaine and 7.8 grams of marijuana.

Both men are charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and related offenses. They were arraigned before Coopersburg District Judge David Harding, and were free on $50,000 bail.
