In the Battle for Southern Lehigh Sushi Dominance, DeSales Bulldog Beats Penn State Nittany Lion

A packed house and dozens of ballots later, DeSales beats Penn State 568.5 to 557.5.

The may have been the first to pick up the chopsticks, but it was the that walked away victorious in the March 29 Sushi Scholars event at Kome Restaurant in the .

The event, which is part of Kome's "Sushi Scholars" program, which allows representatives of two schools to create a sushi appetizer with the help of Kome executive chef Shuji Hyiakawa. Diners at Kome who orders the one-night only app could then rank the creations on appearance, taste, and creativity. In the end, DeSales "Peking Bulldog" sushi won over Penn State's "Lion Paw Roll" 568.5 to 557.5.

The event pitted Tai-Yin Huang, Ph.D., associate professor of physics at Penn State Lehigh Valley, against Christopher R. Cocozza, associate professor of business at DeSales University.

Huang's Penn State "Lion Paw Roll" consisted of seared scallop dices with a spicy sauce on top of a traditional roll with cooked crab inside.

Cocozza's sushi, the "Peking Bulldog Sushi" used chef Hyiakawa's "No Soy" style sushi and combined it with a seared duck breast.
