This lab is located on the second floor of the Scheller Center, which previously served as a student lounge and bookstore space.

Lehigh Carbon Community College’s Tamaqua site will officially dedicate the new Scheller Nursing Simulation Center with a ribbon tying ceremony set for 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 13, at the site, 301 Van Gelder Street in Tamaqua. After the remarks and tying of the ribbon, students will lead guests on a tour of the facility.
This lab is located on the second floor of the Scheller Center, which previously served as a student lounge and bookstore space. It has been completely remodeled to include a lab for nursing education that includes high and low fidelity nursing simulation equipment, control room and a fully equipped classroom, debriefing area, meeting space and student lounge.
Three simulation pods mimic the clinical setting, each including a high fidelity manikin that can be programmed for different medical scenarios that build basic and critical thinking skills: adult manikin for medical/surgical and trauma education, a female manikin and a newborn manikin for obstetrics and newborn skills, and a pediatric manikin for pediatric skills. In addition, the lab features two low fidelity adult manikins where nursing students can practice basic skills such as temperature taking, blood pressure monitoring, giving an injection, starting an IV, etc.
The pods mimic the clinical arena and support simulation scenarios that build student competency in working as part of a healthcare team. Previously, the sim lab was located in the Morgan Center building, but this expanded space allows obstetrics and newborn manikin, as well as a control room where faculty can create unique medical scenarios that closely mimic real life.
The Scheller Nursing Simulation Center was funded by a grant from the Morgan Foundation.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to register their attendance by contacting Amber Zuber at azuber2@LCCC.edu or 570-225-7020.
