Letter to the Editor: Where Did Tapler and Zapach Get Campaign Money?
An open letter to the residents of Lower Milford

To the Editor
Lower Milford Township is in the midst of selecting Township Supervisors. The incumbents have met with the residents, participated in Upper Saucon Patch’s candidates night, and have openly discussed their positions. Most people know what Donna Wright and Mike Snovitch stand for. They believe in maintaining our rural character by preserving farm land and controlled growth while keeping taxes low
On the other hand, Jeff Tapler and Ted Zapach have been secretive, avoiding public discussion of the issues. They avoided candidates night, an insult to the residents. They claim that a few face to face meetings with residents are better, but it is hard to find residents who have been given the opportunity to discuss the issues in any depth. Their flier states their platform as one to help the “underserved” and to restore Lower Milford to the way it was in the past.

What does that mean? It is only their very expensive campaign that offers a potential clue. In the movie All the President’s Men, Deep Throat offers the classic advice for political understanding—“Follow the money.” The expense of the campaign, fliers post marked outside of our area, all suggest that significant financing is occurring outside of the Township. As such, it is clear why residents do not matter, their loyalty is elsewhere.
Their “underserved” seem to be large outside developers such as those who want to destroy 7% of our farmland for a quarry that will reduce property values by over 10 million dollars. The loss of the tax base will force tax increases to be shouldered by the ones that live away from the quarry.

In this light, restoring Lower Milford must mean they want to go back to the 1800’s when limestone quarries scarred our land , with kilns spewing pollution in the air, and roads jammed with wagons loading and carrying stone dangerously through the Township.
Follow the money -- Lower Milford Township is at stake!
