Letters to the Editor: New and Old Residents Concerned About Candidate's Commitments
Two open letters to the residents of Lower Milford

To the Citizens of Lower Milford Township,
As residents of Lower Milford Twp. for 25 years we have enjoyed country living at its best . If a quarry, asphalt, and concrete plant is allowed to operate in our township our environment will be replaced with stone trucks on our roads every 90 sec., dust, pollution, and the smell of pitch. Wise up folks, once here it will change the quality of life in our township FOREVER. If our zoning ordinances are not upheld now we leave ourselves open to all kinds of challenges in the future. Vote to keep Donna Wright and Mike Snovitch in office. They have the experience, and they care about our townships well-being. They deserve our support. Thank you.
Mr. and Mrs. Melcher

To the Residents of Lower Milford,
After believing we found the ‘right’ retirement location and house (close to children and grandchildren), my wife and I moved from NJ to Lower Milford Township. The four months we have lived in “The Jewel in the Crown of Lehigh County” met our expectations.
On May 3rd that sense of comfort began to change after attending a ‘Meet the Candidates’ forum sponsored by The League of Women Voters (eds note: and Patch) and the ensuing Lower Milford Residents Association meeting. The incumbent candidates – Ms. Wright and Mr. Snovitch - were at the former event and intelligently responded to resident’s questions; the other two candidates - Messrs. Zapach and Tapler (the ‘red sign’ candidates) - were not; not a very favorable first impression as Township newbies. Council positions require a considerable personal time commitment plus in-depth knowledge of both fiscal and legal matters to manage the township’s affairs. Absence at an important information sharing forum or a visceral, short horizon reaction to only selective issues is not effective governance of the health, safety or welfare of the community. Lower Milford residents are facing critical decisions and wrong-headed land use and development decisions will forever shape the township’s bucolic setting, character, quaint towns, farms and neighborhoods (the reason we moved here) and will impact the quality of life and property values of everyone.
Why any resident would cast a vote to sacrifice the appeal of Lower Milford is startling! We can only hope that our dream retirement home is not about to become our worst nightmare. Please cast an informed vote for Donna Wright and Mike Snovitch.
