National Night Out Hits the Streets of Upper Saucon

The annual event encourages neighbors to get out and meet each other.

This Tuesday, step out on your porch and say hi to a neighbor. That's the hope of National Night Out, an annual event aimed at promoting neighborhood unity and partnership.

This is the 28th year the program has taken place, and the first year Upper Saucon residents are encouraged to participate. "Even if you just turn on your porch light and say hi to a neighbor, it makes a huge impact," said Upper Saucon police chief Robert Coyle.

The event comes just as the group slowed down for summer. The group started meeting monthly after a in Valley Green subdivision. The group met to discuss ways to keep your.

Some communities have blown their participation in National Night Out into large events, with parades, games and food. Nothing formal is planned this year in Upper Saucon, but police are hopeful that this year will be the kickoff of something big. "We're taking baby steps," said Coyle.
