New Forensic Laboratory Honors Fallen Upper Saucon Officer

The lab named after fallen officer David M. Petzold will aid law enforcement county-wide

In a few weeks time, the The David M. Petzold Digital Forensics Laboratory of Lehigh County is slated to open. The laboratory is one of the various projects that honor the memory of Upper Saucon Township police officer David M. Petzold. Petzold was killed in the line of duty when a car struck him as he cleared a deer carcass off of Route 309.

The lab, which is under wraps until a media walk-through scheduled for later this month, will process electronics and digital equipment relevant to Lehigh Valley crimes.

Petzold joined the police force in 1996. In 2002, he became the first ever detective for the Upper Saucon police department. He left to join the FBI, but returned in 2005 to the Upper Saucon police department.
