Op-Ed: Developers DO NOT Always Win!

Lower Milford Residents Association president Lori Sickenberger writes her opinion on the recent Geryville ruling

After 7+ years and 47 hearings, the Lower Milford Township Board of Supervisors voted AGAINST Geryville Materials’ request for a Curative Amendment that would allow the development of a 628 acre quarry, asphalt plant and concrete batch plant.  The proposed development, if allowed, would have destroyed Mill Hill, located on Kings Highway.

We applaud the Board of Supervisors for diligently listening to 7 years of Geryville Materials’ testimony, carefully weighing the facts, and making the right decision.  This decision, coupled with the Planning Commission’s October 2011 denial of Geryville’s Land Development Plan, proves that our township is protecting the health, safety and welfare of our residents.

Geryville may say this is just the first chapter towards establishing a quarry…but have they forgotten that they already lost over 8 cases concerning this proposed quarry?

That’s right!

They lost over 8 cases, including their appeals that went all the way to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.  Geryville Materials does not appreciate the tenacity of the citizens of Lower Milford.

We care about the people, the land and the environment.  We will continue to fight to protect Lower Milford citizens and those in surrounding communities from potential water loss and contamination, noise pollution, excessive dust, odors, and dangerous truck traffic.
