Administrators Hope PSSA Boot Camp Increases Test Scores

PSSA's start today at Southern Lehigh Schools

Across the state, the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (known as the PSSA) tests are ramping up, and in Southern Lehigh, students have been put through boot camp. 

This year, Southern Lehigh High School's junior class was sent to "PSSA Boot Camp."

According to recent reports, the boot camp is the district's answer to increasing expectations for the district's PSSA scores. Instead of focusing on subject matter, the "boot camp" focused on test-taking skills. Test-taking strategies were added to the past week's core curriculum -- math and language arts.

According to high school principal Christine Siegfreid, the idea came from a similar program at Catasauqua High School that focuses on struggling students.
