SLSD Finalist for Project RED 'Signature' Designation
Program would bring support to the district for 1:1 laptop program.

Superintendent Leah Christman announced that Southern Lehigh School District is a finalist in the Project RED (Revolutionizing Education) "signature school" program, which would bring support to the district as
Project RED's initial study, released in 2010, showed that schools with proper rollout and implementation of 1:1 computing technology outperformed schools without the 1:1 computing ratio, or those with poor rollout. The initial study looked at 997 schools over the 2009-10 school year.
"It costs us nothing," said Christman. "But [Project RED] will work with the district to provide professional development and make sure the implementation [of the 1:1 laptops] follows the research methods [shown to be successful in the study]. We will know by Sept. 6 if we're part of the top 20."

In order to qualify for the program, a district must have a 1:1 student-computer ratio.
According to Project RED's website, "[The project's] findings demonstrate that schools employing a 1:1 student-computer ratio and key implementation factors outperform other schools, and reveal significant opportunities for improving education return on investment [ROI] by transforming teaching and learning."
