Some Center Valley Locations Have Bethlehem Addresses: Why is That?

Have you ever noticed that some locations in Center Valley (Upper Saucon Township) have Bethlehem mailing addresses, even though they are nowhere near the city of Bethlehem?

Have you ever noticed that some locations in Center Valley (Upper Saucon Township) have Bethlehem mailing addresses, even though they are nowhere near the city of Bethlehem?

The most obvious example is the Copperhead Grille, whose address is 5737 Rt. 378, Bethlehem, PA 18015.

Ironically, the restaurant is located directly across the street—on the other side of Preston Lane—from the Center Valley branch of the United States Postal Service.

And it is located nearly five miles south of the actual boundary line between Bethlehem and Lower Saucon Township.

Another prominent location in the area—the Joseph P. Liberati Intermediate School, which is also located on Rt. 378—also has a Bethlehem address.

With the predominance of GPS devices used to calculate directions—and to find locations—do you think having a Bethlehem zip code extend so deep into Southern Lehigh territory makes sense?

Share your thoughts about this potentially confusing map situation in the comments section.
