Southern Lehigh School Board Holds Special Session This Weekend, Will Discuss 2011-2012 Budget

Proposed cuts, as well as the potential impact of Governor Corbett's proposed budget are on the agenda.

Bright and early at 9am this Saturday morning, members of the will meet at the high school to discuss the 2011-2012 budget.

This meeting, which will take the place of the March 14 school board meeting, will cover all usual school board business (such as personnel matters) but will also include a special seminar on the district's financial outlook.

During the seminar, being billed as "The Southern Lehigh School District Budget Seminar", the board will discuss proposed budget cuts, the potential impact of Governor Tom Corbett's state budget proposal, and additional topic items such as the district retiree benefits and capital improvement projects.

The seminar was added as a special agenda item after the . During the Jan. meeting the budget and finance committee expressed concern about the lack of consensus for a budget recommendation. “Two meetings ago, the board tasked us to come forward with a consensus on the budget proposal," said Jeff Dimmig, chairman of the budget and finance committee. "(The committee) has gone over it, but we can’t come to a consensus.”
