Southern Lehigh Sweeps Swimming Districts

Southern Lehigh wins both boy's and girl's District XI AA Championship

In the District XI AA Championship, Southern Lehigh took a commanding lead early. The end result was that the Southern Lehigh boys' swim team took the top spot with a score of 436. The Lady Spartans followed suit winning the AA event with 490 points.  

The Salisbury girls' team took second place in the District XI AA with 289 points. One of the brightest highlights was Salisbury junior Katie Cialowski who won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.47. 

After the 200-yard individual medley, the Salisbury boys' swim team had a total score of 74. By the 100-yard freestyle they had taken third place with 171 points, then they inched into second place with 250 points with their performance in the 100-yard backstroke.

They maintained second place from then on finishing the competition with a score of 288 points.  

In the boys' 100-yard breaststroke event, Southern Lehigh's Mike Ambrose took first with a time of 1:00.95, followed by his Southern Lehigh teammates who took second and third.

Southern Lehigh boys' and girls' teams set records in the 400-yard freestyle relay, and the boys also set a  record of 1:39.14 in the 200-yard medley relay.

Salisbury Sophomore Eric Tatum swam a dead heat against Southern Lehigh's Riley Geis. Tatum took second place with only a three tenths of a second separating him from the winning time. 

The Dennis McGinley award, recognizing outstanding swimmers, went - for the second year in a row - to to Solehi senior Jason Moyer. “I knew I was eligible and I fought for it,” Moyer said. Moyer finished the AA championship by taking the gold in the 50-yard freestyle and then again in the 100-yard backstroke. 

For the girls, Northwestern Lehigh junior Madison Burns took first place in the 200-yard  individual medley with a time of 2:06.13. Burns also received the girls' McGinley award for outstanding swimming.

The AA event ended with Southern Lehigh in first place, Salisbury in second, and Allentown Central Catholic in third with 233 points. Moravian Academy followed with a score of 199.
