Speed Limit Established on Several Upper Saucon Streets
Following a complaint about speeding from a resident, Upper Saucon Township supervisors voted to establish a 25 mph speed limit on Herman Street, Abbott Street, Oliver Street and Hampton Drive.
After being told about the need for traffic enforcement, Upper Saucon Township supervisors unanimously approved a motion to establish a 25 mph speed limit on Herman Street, Abbott Street, Hampton Drive and Oliver Street on Monday.
Township manager Thomas Beil told supervisors that a resident recently complained about cars speeding on Herman Street, which—along with the other affected thoroughfares—is located between Lanark Road and Route 309.
The residential streets were dedicated about 50 years ago, and no speed limit was ever established for them, he said.
"In order to enforce the speed limit, we need to adopt the speed limit," Beil explained.
"No engineering studies are needed if you're posting a 25 mph speed limit in a residential area," he added.
Beil said speed limit signs would be posted in the neighborhood after a five-day waiting period had elapsed.
After that, township police will be able to enforce the speed limit there.
