St. Michael Students Make Final Round at History Day Competition

Eighth-grade students Simon Talago and John Luis Alvarez were in the top 14 in their category in the United States.

St. Michael the Archangel School eighth-grade students Simon Talago and John Luis Alvarez recently took part in the final level of the 2011 National History Day Competition June 12 through 16 at the University of Maryland, College Park.

The boys' Junior Group Documentary project, “The Dayton Peace Accords and Their Aftermath: For Better or Worse in Bosnia?" made it to the final round, with only 14 competitors in their category.

Getting to nationals was a long road. The boys competed locally, then in the regional contest March 5 at Penn State’s Hazleton Campus, and again in the state competition at Millersville University May 11 and 12.
