St. Mike's Reads Across America with Dr. Seuss
School enjoyed crafts, games, and of course, lots of reading.
In honor of Dr. Seuss’s Birthday and in conjunction with the national celebration, our school will take part in Read Across America activities from Monday, February 27th through Friday, March 2nd. Students in the primary school, grades K through 4, were challenged to read over 56,000 pages in their favorite books during the week. Teachers held classroom read-ins and younger students partnered with older to read together.
On Friday, March 2nd, students in the primary school held a birthday celebration for Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss. St. Michael’s School learning specialist, Mrs. Julie Borden, organized the week’s events and gathered her 2nd grade reading group to perform a Reader’s Theater of the Dr. Seuss classic, Green Eggs and Ham.
On the evening of Friday, March 2nd, in the Parish Center of St. Joseph’s Church, St. Michael the Archangel School held a Family Read-In and Pajama Party featuring the Dr. Seuss characters. Students in the primary school, grades K through 4, were challenged to read over 56,000 pages in their favorite books this week. In response, students read over 70,000 pages!! In recognition of the student’s accomplishments, St. Michael the Archangel School principal, Mrs. Lori Rutkiewicz, appeared that evening dressed as Cindy Lou Who, a character from the Dr. Seuss book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Also in attendance were The Cat in the Hat, Thing 1, and Thing 2 book characters. The evening was a HUGE success, with many school families in attendance!
