State Police Announce Labor Day Weekend Arrests
State Police's Troop M, based in Bethlehem, said troopers arrested 39 motorists for DUI over the holiday weekend.

The number of DUI arrests over the Labor Day weekend by state police's Troop M, based in Bethlehem, rose significantly from 2010, according to a news release issued Tuesday.
In 2010, Troop M arrested 25 motorists for DUI over the Labor Day weekend. This past weekend, between Sept. 2 and Sept. 5, there were 39 motorists arrested for DUI, the release said.
The total number of citations issued to motorists also increased --from 1,235 in 2010 to 1,309 this year, while 51 motorists received citations for seat belt violations this year.

The release said troopers over this past holiday weekend investigated 51 vehicle crashes that resulted in 17 injuries but no fatalities, while in 2010 there were two fatalities and 15 injuries over the holiday weekend.
In 2010, five of the crashes that were investigated were found to have been alcohol-related. This year, three of the crashes were determined to have been alcohol-related, the release said.

The release was issued by Capt. William A. Teper Jr., Troop M commanding officer, and Trooper First Class Marc W. Allen, public relations officer.
