Swain Students Pose as Famous Pennsylvanians in Wax Museum
Swain School students culminate their study of all things Pennsylvanian by posing as famous figures in a wax museum.
How long can a third-grader sit still? The students of Swain School teachers
Mary Garton, Kellie Cole and Karen Richards put that to the test last week when they presented their Famous Pennsylvanians Wax Museum.
The students spend the year studying all things Pennsylvanian, including the Commonwealth's history, geography, foods, government, economy, literature, and people who were born or raised here.
Each student selected a famous and after extensive research, developed a scrapbook that included items they created, such as a diary entry, birth certificate, timeline and newspaper article.

Their study culminated last week with a "wax museum" of famous Pennsylvanians (actually, Swain students dressed in costume, sitting very stilll for three 10-minute sessions), which was visited by Swain students, families and faculty and staff.
Some of the famous Pennsylvanian represented included William Penn, Ben Franklin, Molly Pitcher, Grace Kelly, Louisa May Alcott, Jim Thorpe, Bill Cosby, Will Smith, Joe Namath, Rachel Carson and Tara Lipinski.
