Two Locals Run the Boston Marathon

While the rest of us are getting to work and sipping a warm caffeinated beverage, two local residents will be at the starting line of the Boston Marathon. 

Coopersburg resident and school board member Jeff Dimmig will be hitting the pavement wearing bib number 3100, along with Center Valley resident Nicole Lisicky, who will be heading out wearing bib number 13968. 

(UPDATE: A third runner from Southern Lehigh, Chris Garges is also running the marathon with bib number 1245. Garges is listed as a Bethlehm resident in the entrant list. Upper Saucon Patch apologizes for the oversight.) 

Along with a grueling 26.22 miles of winding road, this year Mother Nature is throwing in a monkey wrench of her own. According to the Associated Press , the expected 80-degree weather could put some (especially first-time) runners at risk, leading officials to offer a deferment for this year's entrants. 

According to Wikipedia, in order to participate a runner must qualify in an official marathon within a certain amount of time before the Boston Marathon. Because of the excessive heat warning, the qualifying race will carry over to 2013 if the participant chooses not to run.

The race garners an annual audience of about a half-million viewers, making it the most popular spectator sport in New England.
