Hurricane Humberto May Whip Up Waves Off Rhode Island

The National Weather Service predicted "near gale force" winds by Tuesday night.

Hurricane Humberto may whip up high waves for Rhode Island, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service predicted that "Humberto will bring increasing southerly swell to the waters" Tuesday and Wednesday, lingering into Thursday, "with near gale force (northeast) winds late Tuesday night into Wednesday night.

By Friday, "wave heights may be more than twice the significant wave height," the National Weather Service said.

Aside from the winds and waves, the week is shaping up to be a pleasant one, with clear sunny skies and high temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to mid-70s.
