BRISTOL, RI — A Bristol man was arrested Wednesday morning after firing a gun in the street and a standoff with police. The scene was cleared and police declared the area safe by about 8 a.m., police said.

Police were first called around 1:30 a.m. by a man who said he followed a car to a High Street home. The man he was following got out of his car and got into an argument with a woman outside the house. He then went into the house and got a rifle, Bristol police told Patch, then fired it several times in the direction of the 911 caller.

Police identified the shooter as 32-year-old Ari Brisbon, who lives in the first-floor unit of the home.

One of the bullets broke the window of the man's truck, police said, and grazed the man's shoulder. He was not injured and stayed on the line, continuing to update police about what was happening.

When Bristol police arrived, both Brisbon and woman were inside the first floor of the house with the lights off. Around 6 a.m., the Rhode Island State Police tactical unit approached the house with an armored vehicle and spoke with the couple in the house, police said.

Eventually, a light went on inside the house and the Brisbon came outside, where he was arrested. The woman followed him outside, and was taken to the Bristol Police Department for questioning. She was later released, police said.

During the standoff, police were able to contact and evacuate the residents of the second- and third-floor apartments in the house. The scene was declared safe and secured by about 8 a.m., police said. Three area schools, Colt Andrews, Guiteras and Mount Carmel were all delayed by two hours.

Brisbon was charged with the following: assault with intent to commit felonies, felony assault with a dangerous weapon or substance, discharge of a gun when committing a crime, carrying a gun without a license and firing in a compact area.
