Alice M. Marchand, 84, Active Volunteer

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for her on Saturday at St. Jean Baptiste Church in Warren.

Alice M. (Plante) Marchand, of 1014 Hope Street, Bristol and formerly of Warren, died Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center, Providence, surrounded by her loving family. She was 84.

She was the wife of the late Paul J. Marchand Sr., her husband of 49 years who died in 1991. Born in Pawtucket and raised in Warren, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Eva (Forrest) Plante Sr.

She was a Bristol resident for 66 years, moving from Warren in 1947. She worked in the printing department of the former P.F. Industries in Bristol for 20 years, retiring in 1971. She had previously worked at the former US Rubber Company and Kaiser Aluminum Corp.

She was a communicant of St. Jean Baptiste Mission Church in Warren. She loved to play Bingo and was active in the Benjamin Church Tenants Association, the Kaiser Retirees, Bristol Senior Citizens Council, the Benjamin Church Senior Center, the Warren Senior Center and the Portsmouth Multi-Purpose Senior Center, and she did volunteer work for all of these groups.

She is survived by four children, Sandra A. Geoffroy and her husband Joseph of Estero, FL, Kathleen Jones of Rumford, Paula A. Andrews and Paul J. Marchand, Jr., both of Warren, a sister, Irene Mello of Warren, six grandchildren, Daniel Geoffroy and his wife Audrey, Patricia Taylor and her husband David, Gary Geoffroy and his wife Tracey, Jennifer Andrews Cechinel, Amie Geoffroy Kessler and Frank H. Andrews, III, and 13 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Wilfred Plante, Jr., Raymond, Albert, Arthur, Robert and Leo Plante and two sisters, Theresa Kation and Doris Ramos.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 19, at 10 am in St. Jean Baptiste Mission Church, 324 Main Street, Warren. Burial will be private and visiting hours have been respectfully omitted.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
