Coventry Cops Nab Man Driving Stolen Car with Two Different Stolen Plates

An officer on patrol saw Alex Patterson, 20, driving with mismatched plates, both stolen. moments later, he was arrested after a chase.

COVENTRY, RI—A man driving with two different stolen license plates on the same car was arrested by Coventry police Sunday morning after a short vehicle pursuit and foot chase.

Alex Patterson, 20, of Providence, is now facing charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods, eluding police and resisting arrest after officers caught him after he ditched the stolen car at the end of dead-end Wood Street at around 10:36 a.m., police said.

Police said an officers first saw Patterson driving on Tiogue Avenue with the mismatched plates, both stolen. When officers tried to pull him over, he fled down Main Street then onto Wood Street before bailing. He was captured shortly afterwards.

Patterson, at the time of his arrest, was wanted on two active bench warrants and is being held as a probation violator over the Labor Day weekend until he appears in Kent County District Court.
