What Should Coventry Do with Landfill Money?

On Sept. 30, officials from Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation presented checks to every city and town in the state as part of the company's profit-sharing program.

Last year, each community received a share of about $1.94 million in profits from the sale of recyclables — in Coventry's case, about $75,000.

A press conference was held Monday morning, during which the 2013 amounts were announced. Check back with Patch on Tuesday to learn how much the Coventry received.

According to RIRRC, the money can only be spent on updating the recycling programs in each city and town. At the last Council meeting, Town Manager Tom Hoover presented a proposed pilot program to test automated trash and recycling collection along two Coventry DPW refuse collection routes. If approved, the pilot program would be funded by the Town's recycling profit-sharing account.
