Cliff Bars, Nature Valley Bars Recalled over Listeria Concerns

Numerous products sold under the Cliff Bar, Nature Valley and Stop and Shop brands are being recalled over possible contamination.

Cliff Bars, Nature Valley bars made by General Mills  and other sunflower-kernel-containing products are being recalled because they might be contaminated with Listeria.

The Rhode Island Department of Health said that Stop and Shop, SunOpta, Cliff Bar and General Mills are recalling the products under a voluntary recall and it's an expansion of an earlier SunOpta recall.

"This has prompted companies that use its sunflower kernels. . .to initiate their own recalls," according to a health department news release.

Listeria can cause fatal infections in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. Healthy adults might experience a high fever, headache, nausa and abdominal pain. Pregnant women are especially at risk and could experience a miscarriage.

If you have any of the affected products, throw them out immediately.
