RI State Police Break Ground On New Public Safety Complex

The new facility in West Greenwich will replace the Wickford and Hope Valley barracks, serving as a hub for state police in southern RI.

WEST GREENWICH, RI — Rhode Island State Police broke ground Friday on construction of the new Southern Public Safety Complex.

The new facility in West Greenwich will replace the Wickford and Hope Valley barracks, serving as a hub for state police in southern Rhode Island. Gov. Dan McKee, State House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi, and state Sen. Leonidas Raptakis (D-Coventry, West Greenwich) joined Rhode Island State Police Col. Darnell Weaver to participate in the ceremonial groundbreaking.

"The Southern Public Safety Complex will consolidate our efforts, streamlining operations and ensuring our resources are efficiently allocated," Weave said. "Having this state-of-the-art facility will also enhance our ability to respond to the needs of the communities in the southern region of Rhode Island, allowing us to continue delivering the highest quality of modern public safety services."

State police said the new building will be 35,000 square feet and will be completed in June 2026 at a cost of $41.3 million dollars. About 80 state troopers will be stationed there.
