That Car On Fire On 138 Saturday Night? Totalled, But All Safe
The driver was able to retrieve musical instruments needed for a gig in Newport Saturday night.
If you happened to have been traveling on Route 138 in North Kingstown Sunday evening around 7:30, you may have seen a car engulfed in flames. The good news? No one was hurt and even the musical instruments in the car were retrieved before flames overtook the car.
NK Fire Deputy Chief Robert Giglietti said the driver, who was alone, was a Rhode Island musician on his way to a gig in Newport when he noticed the smoke and flame from under the hood. He acted quickly, Giglietti said, pulling over and grabbing a drum set and a guitar out of the car.
Giglietti said the instruments were set up neatly on the side of the road, away from the car. He said the driver called his bandmates, who picked him and the instruments up.
The fire tied up eastbound traffic on the road for about a half hour, Giglietti said.
