Weekend Five Things: Church Fair, Seafood Fest & Pirates!

Your guide for life in North Kingstown for Aug. 3-4.

St. John the Divine Church Fair: This annual summer fair has all kinds of great summer comfort foods such as lobster rolls and the Bright Yellow HotDogRod serving hot dogs/chili dogs/burgers/soda and chips. We will have several tables with all types of yard sale items and a children's section for face painting and games. 10 Church Way in Saunderstown. 10 a.m.

Casey Farm market: One of the more established farmers markets in the state takes place Saturday mornings at Casey Farm, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Pirates at Smith’s Castle: Set sail for an adventure at Smith’s Castle on Post Road in NK to see PIRATES! Against All Flags. Neal Kirk, aka Captain William Kidd, founder/commander of Free Men Of the Sea, a pirate living-history reenactment group, will display his exhibit of original and reproduction artifacts to depict the reality and myths about the Golden Age of Piracy. PIRATES! Against All Flags focuses on the pirates of the Red Sea trade that were common in New England from about 1690 to 1720. Come get a glimpse into the fact and folklore of the pirates of long ago. View a variety of period weapons, an array of pirate flags, period coins, examples of what treasure pirates really sought, pirate books and movie costumes, types of punishments, and other essential pirate paraphernalia. If you love things piratical, you’ll enjoy this exhibit.Admission to the indoor PIRATES! Exhibit is $8 adults, $3 children 6-12, and free for children under 6. Rated “Arrrr” for all ages! The exhibit will be available for viewing from noon to 4 p.m. on every Saturday in August.

Charlestown Seafood Festival: A gastronomic extravaganza of Rhode Island's best seafood, lobsters, steamers, chowder, fish & chips, clam cakes, corn on the cob and a raw bar, as well as an array of all types of foods for every taste. A wide variety of arts and crafts on display, amusement rides, rock wall climbing, car show, Marcolites Kite exhibition, children's shows, bungee jumping, Petting Zoo, kayak, overnight getaways, dinners and lobster raffle. Continuous entertainment and events. Sat. 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Great Graffiti Contest: The East Greenwich Housing Authority’s annual event will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. EGHA provides the tools (paint, chalk, masks & gloves) – you provide the creativity and fun. All ages are welcome to participate. Spray paint will be issued to kids 11 years old and up; children under 11 will receive chalk & finger paints. Participants may also bring their own supplies. There will also be a lip synch/dance contest too! Please provide us with the song you will be performing a week in advance, so we can forward your selection to the DJ. Judging will be done by participants, supporters and spectators. Prizes will be awarded in all categories. Pre-registration is recommended, but not required.
