Give Blood - Saturday, September 21 Rhode Island Blood Center will hold a blood drive in the Ocean State Baptist Church Grand Lobby, 600 Douglas Pike, from 9am to 2pm. No appointment necessary.
Mushrooms and Mystery - On Saturday take the mystery out of mushrooming at the Audubon Powder Mill Ledges Wildlife Refuge from 10am to 2pm. Begin with an introductory lecture on mushroom identification. Wild mushrooms will be on display. Next venture out with an Audubon guide for a hike in the woods to find mushrooms growing in the wild. Sample some tasty gourmet dishes made with cultivated "wild" mushrooms. Program Fee: $25/member, $30/non-member. Register online or call 949-5454.
Senior Center Fundraiser - "A taste of...", a fundraiser for the Smithfield Senior Center at the Center, 1 Wm. Hawkins Trail Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. For $20, folks will sample food and drink from local restaurants. Tickets, which are limited, are available at the Center. Call 401-949-4590.
OCRS Playground Opening - The Old County Road Playground Project is planning a formal opening of the new playground for Oct. 27 at 2 p.m.
SFD Open House - The Smithfield Fire Department is hosting their annual open house Oct. 5 from 12-4 p.m. at 607 Putnam Pike. The event is sponsored by Smithfield Fire Department, Home Depot and Papa Gino’s.
