Smithfield Keeps Cooling Centers Open
Smithfield's three cooling centers are open in response to the continued warm and humid weather.

With continued warm and humid weather forecast for Tuesday, the town of Smithfield is keeping its three cooling centers open, the state Department of Health announced.
The National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for all of Rhode Island for Tuesday and the rest of the week, with the potential for heavy thunderstorms and rain causing localized flooding.
Tuesday's forecast is for mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. Daytime highs are expected to reach the low 80s.
Here are the location and times of operation for Smithfield's cooling centers:
- Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink: 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. (401) 233-1051.
- Greenville Public Library: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (401) 949-3630.
- East Smithfield Public Library: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (401) 231-5150.
