Smithfield Police Follow Tip to Record Pot Bust

Eric Freitas, 43, of 1 Hill St. will appear in Sixth District Court Nov. 19 to answer charges stemming from officers' alleged discovery of 238 marijuana plants in his apartment Monday, Smithfield's largest pot seizure.

The Valley Breeze reports a tip alerted police to the growing operation in Freitas's four-unit apartment building, vacant save for Freitas. Police also allegedly seized 3.5 lbs. of marijuana during the bust. 

According to court records, Freitas faces a charge of possession/manufacture of marijuana with intent to deliver, and a charge of possession of greater than five kilograms of marijuana, both felonies. He appeared in Third District Court Wednesday, and his case is now being heard in Sixth District Court. He is scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference Nov. 19.
