Smithfield Ranks 16th in GoLocal Poll

Taking a short slide from the 2012 list of "Best Communities" by GoLocalProv.com, Smithfield has been given the number-16 spot in the website's annual review of Rhode Island cities and towns.

A description posted on this year's results notes that Smithfield blends 'suburban ethos and still-operational farms' with 'ultra modern factories,' and hosts 'one of Rhode Island's top universities, Bryant.'

Last year, Smithfield ranked 13th, between Jamestown and Little Compton — but this year outpaced both coastal towns.

In ranking other local towns, GoLocalProv listed Lincoln at 19, Johnston at 36, North Providence at 35, and Burillville at 31.
