Smithfield Weekend: Rustic Shows, Classic Rock
Drive-in flicks, plus classic rock, jazz, and blues, and local summer celebrations are on the scheduled this weekend.
What are you doing this weekend in Smithfield?
There's a chance of rain Friday and late Saturday, but otherwise the forecast is for sunny skies and pleasant temperatures — so there's nothing stopping you from getting out and enjoying these great events.
Starting Thursday night, the Rustic Tri-Vue Drive-In is showing:
- Smurfs 2 with Grown-Ups 2
- The Heat with The Conjuring, based on events in Rhode Island
- Despicable Me with The Wolverine
The Stadium Theatre in Woonsocket hosts a throwback night of classic rock with the Royalty of Rock Tour, featuring tributes to Pink Floyd, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jefferson Airplane.
Bands include Gilmour's Breakfast, Through the Doors, Custard Pie, Erick Preston, Robin Soares, and Katie Kleyla playing to a 60s-esque light, laser, and video show. [Anyone remember blood slides? — ed.]
Show at 7:30 p.m. Online tickets available for $12 to $18. Additional $4 fee added for online orders.
Chan's fills its Friday/Saturday Jazz/Blues line-up with Greg Abate and Howard Alden on Aug. 2 and John Primer and the Real Deal Blues Band on Aug. 3. Online tickets are $15 for each show.
The 2013 Summer Festival at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish continues through Saturday night at the church grounds at Park Square, just off Rte. 146 in Woonsocket. Hours are 6 to 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday, starts at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Wrap up your weekend on Sunday night with outdoor music with the Springdale Brass Quintet at 25 Green St., Slatersville. Also check out the North Smithfield Farmers and Artisan Market starting at 5 p.m. Free.
