SPD Log: Dog Watching Gone Wrong, LPD Finds Local Car, on Fire

The following information was supplied by the Smithfield Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction:

Editor's note: The following is a partial account of the incidents Smithfield Police responded to during Sept. 11 - 12:

Wednesday, Sept. 11:

  • At about 7:45 a.m., Smithfield Police responded to a Dean Avenue residence for a report of larceny from a vehicle. 
  • At about 3:45 p.m., Smithfield Police responded to a number of reports of larcenies from unsecured vehicles; Two on Penbryn Avenue, two on Julien Street, one on Julien Street and three on Fourth Street.
  • At about 3:45 p.m., Smithfield Police responded to a report of shoplifting at Famous Footwear at 371 Putnam Pike. Three women stole several pairs of shoes and fled in a black Toyota Camry with silver trim.
  • At about 3:45 p.m., Smithfield Police arrested Luis Tapia, 56, charging him with driving with an expired license, after a traffic accident in front of Kentucky Fried Chicken on Putnam Pike.
Thursday, Sept. 12:
  • At about 7:45 a.m., Smithfield Police received a report of suspicious activity from a woman at an Oliver Street address. The woman said she returned home after a trip during which a dog watcher had access to her house. The caller said she found drug paraphernalia in her bed and copied prescription slips in her drawer.
  • At about 3:45 p.m., Smithfield Police arrested Jerry Anitus, 20, on two warrants out of Massachusetts for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and eluding police.
  • At about 3:45 p.m., Smithfield Police responded to a Clark Road residence for a report of a break-in.
  • At about 11:45 p.m., Lincoln Police reported finding a vehicle belonging to a Whipple Road, Smithfield resident fully engulfed by fire in Lincoln. The car's owner said the last time she'd seen the vehicle was in her driveway at 7:30 p.m.
