SPD Log: Thefts from Homes, Record Pot Bust

Editor's note: The following is a partial account of the incidents Smithfield Police responded to during Sept. 15 - 16:

Sunday, Sept. 15:

  • At about 7:45 a.m., Smithfield Police responded for a complaint of vandalism on a vehicle parked overnight at the Stump Pond parking lot. 
  • At about 3:45 a.m., Smithfield Police responded for a report of theft of a cell phone from a car in the parking lot of Jaswell Farm, 50 Swan Road.
  • At about 3:45 p.m., Smithfield Police responded to a complaint of harassing text messages sent to a woman on River Street.
Monday, Sept. 16:
  • At about 3:45 p.m., Smithfield Police arrested Cori A. Weintraub, 23, who turned herself in on a warrant for domestic assault and disorderly conduct.
  • At about 3:45 p.m., Smithfield Police responded to a report of a truck backing into a building, Valley Green Wholesale, 23A Appian Way.
  • At about 3:45 p.m., Smithfield Police responded to a report of theft of copper pipes and a table from 105 Stillwater Road.
  • At about 3:45 p.m., Smithfield Police responded for a report of larceny from four lockers broken into at Bryant University's athletic center.
  • At about 3:45 p.m., Smithfield Police responded to a report of theft of hunting equipment from a residence at 8 Village Drive, Apt. 112.
  • At about 11:45 p.m., Smithfield Police arrested Eric Freitas, 43, for unlawful manufacturing of marijuana, and possession of more than 1-5 kilograms of marijuana. Police allegedly seized 3.5 lbs. of marijuana and 238 marijuana plants during the bust, the largest in recent memory.
