Longest Night Service
Holding the light in this holy and sometimes hard time of year.
This time of year—the holidays, the darker days, the cold—are not easy for a lot of us. Remembering those who are not with us, holding onto hope in difficult times, simply finding space to feel our feelings in the franticness of the season: this is what we do at a Longest Night service. Kingston Congregational Church annually celebrates the Longest Night (though not always on the solstice itself) with a service of remembrance and hope. We remember the holy stories of the season and make room for the complicated feelings we bring with us into this time of year. We light candles of remembrance and hope. We pray for one another. We lend one another space. If you need this kind of service—or know someone who does--come to a Longest Night, and we’ll hold the Light with you and face together the holy darkness in which it shines.
