11 Midlands Residents Arrested in Statewide Tax Evasion Case

Eleven Columbia area residents were arrested for tax evasion in a statewide state income tax return investigation.

A statewide investigation into state income tax returns have resulted in the arrest of 18 people, South Carolina Department of Revenue officials announced Friday.

Officials said 18 people filed W4 forms with their employers claiming to be exempt from taxation, which caused little to no taxes to be withheld from their paychecks.

Those employees also failed to file tax returns for multiple years, according to the department.
