Original story: Residents of Whitwood Circle off Tawny Branch Road should boil their water before drinking or cooking, the City of Columbia announced Wednesday night.

A six-inch water main break in the area could possibly result in bacterial contamination of the water, according to a press release from the city.

Residents should vigorously boil their water for at least one minute before drinking or coooking.

Any residents near the affected area who have lost water or water pressure are also advised to boil their water for a minute before using it.

Ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.

The City of Columbia Water Works is working to correct the problem.
