Columbia Man Dies in Fiery I-277 Crash

A Columbia man died Tuesday in a single-vehicle wreck near on I-277 near Bull Street, according to the Richland County Coroner's Office.

Gary A. Raszewski, 59, was driving on I-277 around 10:10 a.m. when his SUV ran off the road and hit a concrete barrier, Coroner Gary Watts said.

Raszewski died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, Watts said.

Civilians and police officers tried to pull Raszewski from the wrecked SUV, according to a report from WIS, but were unable to because the vehicle caught on fire.

The Columbia Police Department is investigating the collision.
