Woman Charged with Felony DUI in Crash that Killed Pedestrian

A 26-year-old man was hit by a car Saturday night and died early Sunday morning.

A Columbia woman is charged with felony driving under the influence involving a death after the car she was driving hit and killed a pedestrian Saturday night, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. 

Aliza Brown, 53, was driving the 2000 Dodge Stratus that hit 26-year-old Jeremy Ricardo Hayes around 9:50 p.m. Saturday, according to the highway patrol. 

Hayes was walking in the painted median on Hwy. 321 or Fairfeild Road when he was hit, according to the Richland County Coroner's Office. He was transported to Palmetto Richland where he died around 12:59 a.m. Sunday.

An autopsy shows that Hayes died from complications of injuries sustained when he was hit by the car, Coroner Gary Watts said.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
