Deputies Seize 14 Video Gambling Machines

Deputies found the machines at businesses on Leesburg and Garners Ferry roads.

Richland County deputies seized 14 video gambling machines and more than $1,400 in a recent sweep to crack down on illegal gambling. 

Thanks to Crimestoppers tips, deputies found machines at the following businesses: 

  • The Pizza Palace, 1314 Leesburg Road – 2 machines
  • Citgo, 1704 Leesburg Road – 2 machines
  • Boss Hawg’s Lounge, 4876 Leesburg Road – 1 machine
  • Stevo’s Wings, 6423 E Garners Ferry Road – 9 machines

In their effort to rid Richland County of illegal gambling, deputies with the Community Action Team have confiscated 55 illegal gambling machines from clubs, homes and convenience stores, according to the sheriff's department. They seized more than $10,000 from those machines.

Sheriff Leon Lott said the sheriff's department continues to receive tips about businesses opertaing illegal gambling machines. 

"Let me be clear that as long as it is a crime to gamble or possess gaming machines, we will prosecute you," Lott said.

Illegal gambling includes Internet sweepstakes, magic minutes or anything similar, Lott said. 

"The newest trend is that these machines are now being found in residential homes," Lott said. "With the community’s assistance, we will continue to locate and seize these gaming machines."
