Election 2012: Romney Out-Raising Obama With Fewer SC Donors

The race for SC dollars in the upcoming presidential election heated up in August.

It's impossible to find a political pundit who believes South Carolina is in play in this year's presidential election.

The Palmetto State is a red one, and there's no doubt about it. But whether you're red or blue, it's the green that remains in high demand.

President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney each received thousands of donations from South Carolina residents in August, according to data from the Federal Election Commission.

It's no suprise that Romney is winning SC in the polls, and the fundraising race. And he's doing it by averaging three times as much money in each donation as Obama.

Romney raised $483,631.82 with 1,330 August donations. His donations averaged $363.63.

In total, the former Massachusetts governor has brought in $1,875,176 with more than 4,500 South Carolina donations. His average donation is $415.32.

In August, Obama raised nearly $100,000 less, despite more than twice the donations. He raised $390,809.08 with 3,541 donations from SC, for an average donation of $110.37.

The President has raised $1,495,360 in South Carolia with nearly 12,500 donations — an average of $119.90.
